M.O.S.T. OER GRANT PROGRAM

The M.O.S.T. OER Grant Program strategically supports Maryland public higher education institutions’ efforts to increase access, affordability, and achievement for students through the incorporation of OER into teaching practices.

The M.O.S.T. initiative OER Grant Program was launched to enhance OER efforts at 2- and 4-year public higher education institutions across the state.

The Maryland Open Source Textbook (M.O.S.T.) initiative Faculty OER Mini-Grant Program supports faculty efforts to increase access, affordability, and achievement for students at Maryland’s 2-year and 4-year public higher education institutions through the incorporation of open educational resources (OER) into teaching practice.

The goals of the Faculty OER Mini-Grant Program are to impact student success through:

  • OER adoption in high enrollment courses (Adopt/Adapt grants);
  • OER creation in high-need areas (Create grants); and
  • OER evaluation to understand the impact of the use of OER on student success (Evaluate grants).

The Maryland Open Source Textbook (M.O.S.T.) Institutional OER Grant Program supports strategic institutional efforts to increase access, affordability, and achievement for students at Maryland’s 2-year and 4-year public higher education institutions through more systemic incorporation of open educational resources (OER) into teaching practice.

Institutions awarded these grants are able to articulate a vision for how OER will help them achieve strategic goals and explain how the campus will nurture and sustain this next-level work after the funding period ends. Specific projects can range in scope and type but are typically aimed at:

  • developing and assessing OER pathways (such as across general education or several required courses in a major),
  • creating tighter connections between the use of OER and evidence-based practices in teaching, and
  • building the infrastructure to support faculty adopting OER into their teaching practice.

To date, the M.O.S.T. OER Grants have supported 111 projects at 26 institutions across Maryland.
